Before Joining the Delaware Eye Institute in 2013, Dr. Schmidt practiced primary care optometry in the Delaware/ Maryland area for 8 years. A native of the Philadelphia area, he received his undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware. From there, he attended optometry school at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. “My training at SCO exposed me to many aspects of eye care including: pediatrics, eye disease, low vision, vision therapy and contact lenses.” While attending optometry school, Dr. Schmidt participated in a research project involving correcting far-sightedness in children. During externships he provided eye exams for the navy, including pilots, at the Naval Air Base in Corpus Christi, TX.
